The journey begins with a flight to Rome. After three nights you fly on to Catania on Sicily’s east coast, and from there a beautiful trip along the coast awaits, taking you to the charming town of Taormina.
Rome – 3 days
Rome is not just a city, it is almost a living museum. During your three days here, you will have time to experience the very best of the city. Start with a walk through Trastevere’s cobbled streets, where the smell of freshly baked focaccia mixes with the sound of clinking glasses from small wine bars. Continue towards the Pantheon before tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain.
One day should be dedicated to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum to really take in the rich history found here. In the evenings, it is hard not to fall in love with the city’s atmosphere. Order a carbonara at a local trattoria in Monti, sip a glass of Frascati and feel like a true Italian.
From Rome to Taormina
After Rome, the journey continues south. A short flight takes you from Fiumicino to Catania, and here the next part of the trip begins. From Catania airport you reach Taormina in about an hour and a half by car or transfer – a scenic journey that winds along the coastline, with Etna as a silhouette in the background. A tip is to rent a car so that you can discover as much as possible of Sicily during your week here; there are many excursions to take.
When you arrive in Taormina, it feels like stepping straight into an Italian dream. The town, located high above the sea, offers panoramic views, charming alleys and a beautiful atmosphere.
A week in Taormina
Here, in this medieval town scented with lemon blossoms, you have a week to truly relax – or seek adventure, if you wish.
Visit the ancient Greek theatre where concerts are still held with Etna as a backdrop. Take the cable car down to the beach at Isola Bella and swim in crystal-clear water. For the adventurous, there are excursions to Mount Etna or wine tastings at local producers on its slopes.
